We are currently hiring a Market Expert & Data Analyst (Future Energy Scenarios) to support one of Europe’s leading electricity transmission system operators. This role focuses on developing future energy scenarios, building analytical tools, improving data infrastructure, and supporting market simulations that contribute to the energy transition.
Role Summary:
As a Market Expert & Data Analyst, you will work closely with the Scenarios, Market & Adequacy Analysis (SMA) team to support energy market studies, future energy scenario development, and modelling activities. You will analyse large datasets, develop analytical tools, improve data management processes, and contribute to simulation modelling that supports strategic planning for Belgium’s and Europe’s energy transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and improve data management and data collection processes.
- Build and maintain datasets used for future energy scenario modelling.
- Consolidate historical energy data into model-ready datasets.
- Collect, validate, and challenge future energy projections from European countries.
- Develop and improve analytical tools using Python, R, Excel, and VBA.
- Support model building activities and perform quality assurance on simulation models.
- Analyze simulation outputs and identify key market trends.
- Create dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI, R, and other visualization tools.
- Support data engineering activities and build interfaces between analytical tools.
- Perform quality checks on datasets, assumptions, and simulation results.
- Present analytical findings and visualization outputs to internal stakeholders.
- Support studies related to electricity demand, renewable generation, flexibility, storage, and energy transition scenarios.
- Required Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data analysis and modelling.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or R (one is mandatory, both are preferred).
- Experience with Excel for data analysis and modelling.
- Experience collecting, cleaning, validating, and analyzing large datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience developing analytical tools and automation scripts.
- Knowledge of data visualization techniques.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong interest in the Belgian and European energy market.
- Passion for energy transition and future energy scenarios.
